Hurricane Season Preparedness Checklist
Each year, hurricane season begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th. Oftentimes, individuals underestimate how these storms could affect their businesses. Hurricane preparedness does not end at home. Therefore, Client Tech has compiled a few suggestions to assist your company or organization and you as an individual.
The following is a quick checklist to use in the event of a pending hurricane or any natural disaster:
• Back-up all data and verify that your back-up is actually usable.
• Make sure any cell phones and laptops are fully charged.
• Properly shut down all computers and remove power (regardless of surge protection).
• Move all computer equipment to a table top (as opposed to the floor) in case of flooding.
• When evacuating, if possible, take your server(s), important computers, back-up tapes and extension hard-drives along with you.
• Cover any electronics with garbage bags or plastic (in case of roof damage).
As always, having a plan in place in case of a disaster is always best.
Here are some tips:
• Compile an inventory of hardware (e.g. servers, desktops, laptops, and wireless devices), software applications and data.
• Have a strategy that ensures all critical data is backed up.
• Assign employees different tasks to delegate this task.
• Ensure that copies of program software are available.
• Create both local and off-site backups of your data.
